3rd-party Software Manager
The 3rd-party software manager is responsible for approving the use of third-party software and open source in PCP.
Description
The manager ensures procurement of software is aligned with the stream's needs. He/she also optimizes costs, reduces the number of similar software from different suppliers, and provides a preferred set of software and suppliers to the streams.
The role requires coordination of third-party software and open-source across organizational functions such as Portfolio and Product Management (PPM), R&D, Planning and Fulfillment (P&F), and Procurement and Logistics (P&L). He ensures the involvement of the right people at the right time in the lifecycle of the software components.
The responsibilities also include defining effective and efficient processes for evaluating suppliers, negotiating costs, setting up contracts, and ensuring licenses are available at a release. The 3rd-party and OSS activities are in sync with milestones and gates.
The 3rd-party software manager regularly reports the status of integrated software and tools to PCP Management.
Responsibilities
- Synchronize and align organizational function in PCP concerning 3rd-party and OSS.
- Monitor suppliers, handle lifecycle issues, and remove impediments.
- Evaluate the business case and cost/benefit, and prepare information for decisions.
- Monitor supplier performance, quality, and vulnerability issues.
- Plan strategically for new 3rd-party software and phasing out and replacing software and suppliers.
- Ensure the central register (Decision Focus) of 3rd-party and OSS is up to date.
- Ensure the 3rd-party processes are followed.
- Drive the continuous improvement of 3rd-party processes, practices, and tools.
- Approve the software, software use, and suppliers in Decision Focus - based on the information provided by the 3rd-party software owner.
