External Interfaces
The lean-agile transformation in PCP R&D also requires the organizations around R&D to support the lean-agile execution. The gates, milestones, and deliverables should not interfere with an incremental and iteration approach, where requirements, design, code, tests, and releases are continuously developed.
The streams are organized around the system, product, and component releases. One stream can work on many releases at the same time, utilizing the capacity in the stream efficiently without moving people between projects.
Organizational Dependencies
The interfaces from R&D to other organizational functions show there are dependencies between people belonging to different organizations. Cooperation across organizational functions should be encouraged to solve problems and remove impediments. It is the management's responsibility to encourage cooperation across organizations and resolve conflicts.
Information Dependencies
The information dependencies show the exchange of artifacts between organizational functions.
Quality Forum
The Quality Forum is run every month and includes representatives of all PCP functions, with PAEN and PAPI divisions. The meeting is designed to review existing field return metrics and discuss escalation on specific critical and urgent customer issues.
No specific quantitative triggers or KPIs are applied which will automatically lead to an investigation; qualitative decision-making is applied through the Quality Forum on whether an investigation is necessary based on the nature of the bug, product affected, customer(s) involved, severity, frequency, etc.
The Head of Operations Quality is the chairman of the Quality Forum. Head of R&D Quality, and the respective system L4 coordinators represent PCP R&D, and provide details about the customer issues.
